“You know what kids love, Willie Horton-style political ads!!” – The GOP
Some context is going to be needed for this ad to make any sense.
So it all started with this (now deleted) tweet from Sean Spicer, the Republican National Committee’s chief strategist and overall head honcho.
For those who don’t know, the “Willie Horton ad” was a 1988 political attack ad that painted then Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis as being “soft on crime” when compared to the GOP presidential nominee George Bush. Many in politics always talk about the ad as a game changer, but… it also played on people’s racial fears and had some strong racist overtones.
So to release a similar ad in 2016 is B-A-N-A-N-A-S!! And that’s exactly what the Republican National Committee did… The following ad is regarding how Democratic VP candidate Tim Kane is soft on crime due to his work as a defense attorney. Yeah, this ad coming out in 2016 is strange.
