The Summer of Our Discontent: A Potential Reason to Why Trump is Leading the GOP Primaries

Dissatisfied conservatives are just like everyone else, they just want to be loved!

Whether you’re a political magazine or CNN, everyone has been asking the same question; who in the right mind for Donald Trump in the GOP primary?!?

Because as Trump leads the current GOP primary polls many of us are left wondering why so many Republican voters are flocking towards Trump? Did the Neo-Con Base God Ronald Reagan not hug you guys enough? Is this all just a cry for attention?

Well from a recent Pew Research report, that just might be the case.

When the Pew Research Center asked surveyors to give their views on favorability between Democrats and Republicans, let’s just say Republicans didn’t fare so well.

Pew Favorability Rating

While Democrats did a lackluster 48% favorability rating, the real story here revolves around the GOP’s numbers. Out of those surveyed, Republicans only had an abysmal 37% favorability rating. While this would spell gloom and doom for the GOP come election time, there’s more nuance to this than meets the eye.

The low favorability numbers look to be coming from the Republicans themselves! Obviously Democrats would have a low favorability rating for Republicans at 11%, but the real kicker comes from their own party’s favorability rating of only 68%!! That’s down from 86% which was reported only a couple of months ago.

There have been reports for months that many conservatives weren’t happy with the field that the top brass at the GOP were presenting. To many conservatives, candidates like Jeb Bush represented the moderate-ification of their party and didn’t reflect their own views. Someone like Trump, as insane as he is, may just be the candidate conservatives latch onto that isn’t the establishment’s pick.

The Pew report looks to back-up those sentiments as well. But if history tells us anything, this type of love affair with a candidate tends not to last.
