Unsurprisingly, the US announced that it would start to re-establish diplomatic ties with Cuba starting later this summer. One of the first actions in restoring diplomatic ties would be reopening the embassies in each other’s respective capitals.

While not necessarily the most Earth-shattering news to come out of the White House this week, it’s still an important step in normalizing relations for both nations. Yet the most interesting aspect of this comes in the fact that both leaders had a letter correspondence between the two that made all this possible.

The White House recently released the letters online. They’re actually super interesting reads. What really struck us is in the formality in which they both read. You can read President Obama’s letter and Cuban President Raul Castro’s letter in their respective links.
